Commemorative Event
Rosemundy House, St. Agnes, Cornwall
(former Mother and Baby home)
10 May 2025
The event went smoothly with lovely weather, a great turnout and a real sense of camaraderie and mutual support. People travelled from all over the country to share the day and the occasion, which made possible through grassroots action and determination by Dr Phil Frampton and many others who were involved.
The local MP, Perran Moon, who had promised to attend, bowed out at the last minute, citing a ‘calendar clash’. This was particularly disappointing given his interest in investigating Primodos, a hormonal pregnancy test drug which has been shown to cause foetal abnormalities. We had hoped to be able to speak to him about DES and how best to press for government action on the matter.
The former Mother and Baby home, Rosemundy House is now Rosemundy House Hotel, but its legacy remains. It was once a place of suffering.
Until we have engagement with and a meaningful response from government, until they acknowledge the many injustices carried out in government-funded mother and baby homes, those who were incarcerated or born in such places and suffered as a consequence will continue to live with the pain of their experiences and be forced to endure the indifference of successive governments.
An emotional and very moving day, the significance of which cannot be overstated.
Well done to Dr Phil Frampton and everyone who made the occasion such a resounding success.
