MAA is a UK based campaign for mothers who lost children to adoption simply because they were young and unmarried, and for the children lost to adoption, who had no say in the matter. In the course of such adoptions young, vulnerable and often powerless single mothers were bullied or coerced into relinquishing their babies. All those impacted by adoption during this time - as many as 500,000 women and their children and their families - deserve justice, recognition and a public formal apology for the cruel treatment they endured at the hands of various Church organisations, the State, Social Services and the medical profession, all of whom collaborated to separate young unmarried mothers from their babies. We want a formal apology similar to that issued by Australian PM Julia Gillard in 2013. The then Australian PM apologised unreservedly to all mothers, children and families affected by forced adoption in Australia. She and her government also put measures in place to provide extensive support for those whose lives had been blighted. We will not rest until we have justice.
